Global pork consumption is predicted to rise

Experts predict that global demand for pork will continue to grow in the long term. A global increase of almost 5% is expected for 2034 compared to 2024. In the EU, however, a decline in pork consumption is anticipated.

According to a recent OECD and FAO forecast, global pork consumption will continue to rise. A global increase of almost 5% is expected for 2034 compared to 2024. Particularly high growth rates of up to 39% are anticipated in Africa and Central America. In contrast, pork consumption in the European Union is expected to decline by 4% over the next ten years. The reasons for this include changing dietary habits and a greater awareness of sustainability.

Demand for pork generally increases with economic development and growing purchasing power. Significant growth is therefore predicted, particularly in emerging markets. Urbanization and modern trade structures also facilitate access to meat products. Despite global growth, pork producers face new challenges. Sustainability and animal welfare will continue to gain importance. Companies must prepare for both higher production volumes and stricter legal requirements.
