As expected, August saw the third year-over-year and monthly increase in Chinese beef imports.
According to data from the General Administration of Customs, imports in August totaled approximately 260,000 tons for US$1.403 billion, an 11% increase in volume and a 25% increase in dollar terms compared to the same month last year.
Between January and August, 1.813 billion tons were imported for US$9.363 billion, a 4% drop in volume but a 2.5% increase in dollar terms compared to the same period in 2024.
In August, pork imports totaled 80,000 tons, 12.5% less than in the same month last year. Between January and August, 710,000 tons were imported, a year-over-year increase of 1.8%.
Data from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture showed that the average price of beef rose 0.2% in the week ending September 18, with a value 3.4% higher than the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the price of live cattle was 10.9% higher than a year ago.
