Luis Planas meets with agricultural organizations and cooperatives to strengthen collaboration and monitor ASF

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, held a coordination meeting with representatives of the Young Farmers’ Association (ASAJA), Union of Small Farmers and Livestock Breeders (UPA), the Coordinator of Farmers and Livestock Breeders Organizations (COAG), Union of Unions and Agri-food Cooperatives of Spain to assess the evolution of the African swine fever (ASF) detected a week ago in the municipality of Cerdanyola del Vallés (Barcelona).

During the meeting, held at the ministry headquarters, the minister emphasized the importance of full collaboration with the entire sector and maintaining complete transparency at every stage of the monitoring process. Planas noted that efforts are focused on containing the disease, preventing its spread, and preserving the openness of export markets for Spanish pork products.

To date, 13 cases of African swine fever (ASF) have been confirmed, all in wild boar located in the same area, within a 6-kilometer radius of the initial outbreak. Additionally, 37 dead wild animals in the area and its surroundings have been analyzed, all with negative results.

Veterinary authorities have visited all 39 pig farms located in the municipalities within the infected zone (20-kilometer radius) and have carried out inspections, taken samples, and verified their biosecurity measures. All are now free of the disease.
